For a quilt you sew the arcs down and leave out the extra petals and it gives a nice design on the front and back of the quilt if you use 2 different colours on both sides of the circles. Someone has a book out or pattern but I can't remember who.

Have you tried the Mock Cathedral Windows pattern? It is the one where you sew the circles with the batting and then turn right side out. The circles are then sewn into rows to make a completed quilt or table runner. I used this method and added extra petals for my Christmas table runners last year. I will try and post a pic.
