    Default Scalloped Table Runner

I would like to scallop a table runner that I'm making but have never done that before. Can anyone tell me the math for doing this or suggest a tool. Thanks for any help you can give me.

I haven't done one but the books I've read said to use a dinner plate. I bet it'll look great when you are through!

I divide it into equal sections for as many scallops as i want. then i find the right sized plate to make the scallops as deep as i like the look of.

I have a scallop ruler but the dinner plate method works too. I've done it both ways.

If it isn't too big a project I make a paper pattern. I tape pages out of an old phone book together until they are the same length that I want to scallop. I then fold the paper in half, then quarter and then eighths depending on how big I want the scallops. I then unfold the paper and find a round object to trace that fits into the creased sections. If it works out perfectly then I use the paper pattern on my fabric. I find it easier to draw on the scallops to the finished tablerunner and sew the binding on before cutting the scallops. This way it gives you time and fabric to adjust if needed. I am sure others will have their own ideas. I have a scallop ruler on order myself to make this job easier.

a plate or bowl even...I have more round bowls in assorted sizes, so I usually end up using a bowl! make sure your scallops are not TOO deep though!

Thanks for the information. I want to make a quilt with a scalloped edge. I will practice on something small using a saucer before I invest in a ruler.

Thank you all, very helpful. I'm definitely going to try to work it out on paper on the finished table runner before I cut
