Default Schmetz Microtex (sharp) needles for machine.

The size is 130/705 H-M 80/12. The package says on the back "use with micro fibers, polyester, silk, foils, artificial leather, coated materials. Very thin acute point creates beautiful topstitching and perfectly straight stictches for quilt piecing. " I bought 5 packs of these on sale at Walmart for 2.25 a pack. Do you know why I would not use for Cotton quilting an other cotton projects. I will try one and see how it does on the table topper i am working on. Thanks for any information you can provide. Cannot pass up a bargin!!!

I often use Microtex needles to do my free motion quilting. They work really well.

I use Microtex all the time. Bought them for use with batiks, but I like the way they work with all quilting cottons.

no reason - they do not say not to use them with cotton- in fact they say 'for quilting' ...they just tell you that they will work with other fabrics that may be hard to find needles for. I've been using them for years (for quilting, piecing, and even sewing patches on leather coats.)

Schmetz needles are very good quality, and that size is a good general-purpose needle for most quilting and piecing applications. You got a bargain!

I almost always use the Schmetz microtex needles for piecing, FMQ, and cotton garment sewing. The only time I've ever had a problem with them was when I used them for making a blanket stitch around ironed on appliqué. The point seemed a little thin for the adhesive backing on the appliqué.

I'd love to get some and find them online at Joann's. Are they 80/12? Joann's only shows 12/80
