They're my favourite needle for machine appliqué. I mostly use the 70/10 but have used both the 60/8 and 80/12. They retail for $4.50 here, so lucky you!

I always like to use a "sharp" needle for my quilting - piecing, quiting, binding, etc. Go out to the Schmetz website: http://www.schmetzneedles.com/all-about-needles/ for needle information. I usually use a Quilting Needle - mainly because that is the "sharp" that is readily available where I shop. However I just started using Top Stitch needles which are also "sharp" but have a little bigger eye for those of us who aren't seeing as well lately and don't have a needle threader!

I use Microtex on everything I piece. You will get a much straighter line because it punctures the fabric straight down, unlike the other needles that will go around the fabric. Schmetz puts out a free information sheet you can probably get online. Lots of great info about their products and how they are best used.

I've used this size of needle when I've done mini paper piecing. When your seam is only 1" long, you want shorter stitches and using this needle really helped.

An instructor in my FMQ class said we had to bring the Microtex 90/14 needle for her class. It worked great!

My machine only likes those. I had a singer needle in the machine and it would skip stitches.

I use Microtex needles for sewing all of my quilt tops. You can use it with cotton quilting fabrics, I do!
