I want to make a quilt for my daughter and her husband, both teachers. I was thinking the school house block would be nice. Usually it is made with red fabric. Has anyone ever seen it in other colors. I'd like to use green to match their bedroom. Thanks.

I made one several years ago. I did do it in traditional red/white/black. I made 46 school houses for the 46 years the superintendent in our town worked in our district. She started as teacher and worked her way up to superintendent. I then had some other squares where everyone in the school signed it. She loved it. I made a small one with left over fabrics for my classroom.

I think green would be great instead of the red. Do one and see.

Your schoolhouse; your color (smile). Please send pics; I think it will be beautiful.

I have seen many red school houses. How about using an apple block for you label?

I did it in blues and cream color behind houses. Unfortunately I used a white backing on the recommendation of my friend who did the longarm quilting on it. I don't like how that turned out.

How about Civil War repro fabrics in greens for the schoolhouses and in off-white/beige/tan for the backgrounds? That would give it an old-fashioned look if that's what you're going for.
