Had some leftover 1-1/2" squares and created 6" squares with these small ones and now I am trying to create a pattern and need some advice. Also have left over strips and want to somehow put them in the quilt. Pictures show what i have on the design wall and the strips leftover and not sure what color to sew around the squares. I would love to make this a queen quilt but need to add a lot to these existing squares. Any suggestions ?

I like the scrappy colors -- I guess I would do the sash and corners. I don't have any better ideas but I did find a web site www.quiltstobestitched.com all sorts of patterns sorted by # of pieces as well as alpha.

Looks like a great start. With all the red and green it actually seems almost like a Christmas quilt. I think I would continue that theme and get some mostly white Christmas/winter themed fabric for the sashing.

    Another option is basic black.

    Lots of scrap quilts here:

Your layout of the 6x6 blocks and four patches for cornerstones look good. You can pretty much use whatever colour you'd like to frame it up with your sashing ... white, black, red, green, blue, etc. ... audition with some strips from your stash and then decide what to use.

Could you use the strips in your attachment to make more of the 6" blocks? Or perhaps use them to make a pieced border?

Look at the block "stashbuster" at quilterscache.com. A little modification and it could work.

Looks like you have a lot of red and green fabrics in your blocks and cornerstone 4-patches. What if you used red prints for vertical sashings and green prints for horizontal sashings?

Or....you've done a great job so far of random selections in the large blocks, why not just keep on and make it totally random?

Whatever, it already looks like a fun quilt and hope you'll post the finished piece!

Boy !! am I learning a lot -- I've sewed for years and except for sewing jeans or canvas, I've never paid much attention to size.
    Thanks to everyone -- Mim

Your quilt looks great so far. I would finish it like others have said, then if you want to make it bigger, start adding borders. That is unless you want to make more "thirty patches". There are lots of border options here on the board...

Thanks for all the suggestions. It took a long time to sew all those little squares and really do not want to make any more. It is so time consuming. I think just adding borders will make up the difference hopefully. It is definetly a scrap quilt....there is no wrong or right to it.

I like the white surrounding your blocks so I would keep all the sashing the same color to make your pieced blocks stand out. With your strips, you could make more pieced blocks or use it for a piano keyboard border.
