Lightbulb Scratching My Head about Thread?

Hello wise quilting ladies and gents. I have just finished the top for my nieces quilt (she'll be 3 on Jan 30th), and I'm planning on basting tonight and hopefully quilting it over the weekend. I'm wondering if y'all could advise me on thread colors to use for the quilting.

Here is the top:

And here is the backing fabric:

I plan on quilting simple sleeping foxes on the snowball blocks and then quilting around the fox head shapes on the fox blocks, and pawprints in the sashing. My question is, what color thread should I use? I was thinking a light grey, but would that stand out too much on the darker snowballs, and not enough on the backing?

P.S. I'm sorry for the fat, grey cat in the way. I'm pretty sure he thinks the quilt is for him.

I like the idea of light gray and think that would be fine. If really unsure, you can sew with the thread on a scrap of each fabric.

cat? I thought it was a fluffy throw! 😊

I have always loved the idea of variegated thread. It is guaranteed to show up nicely on every fabric in the top.

What color variegated would you go for? Purple tones?

I match my thread colour to my skill level. If I am feeling confident I go for a bold colour that shows my quilting, if not I go for a colour that blends in to hide my mistakes. A light grey sounds like a safe colour but it will still show up. Nice top!

I'm going to suggest lavender or gray to quilt that super cute quilt. Have fun.
