    Default Shadow Quilting?????

I've had many recommend shadow quilting on my newest pieced top but I have no idea how to to this. Could someone please explain? Do you quilt 1/4" out on either side of the seam?

I think it's the same as echo quilting. Quilt along the motif, and then 1/4" outside it, and then another 1/4" outside of that, etc. You could use larger than 1/4", depending on the motif. I've also heard of shadow trapunto, but I don't think that's what was meant. I just looked at the picture of the quilt you're working on, and it's gorgeous.

Here are some pictures of someone doing shadow quilting.

Yes what Dunster explained. It kind of looks like ripples out from a stone thrown into water.

I agree with Dunster and Tartan - the name I know for this kind of quilting design is echo quilting and it's often used for Hawaiian Quilts.

Thank you! Since the quilt is pieced using 30's fabrics wanted to keep that going with the quilting pattern. Thank you so much for the link. I understand how to do it now.
