I think it's the same as echo quilting. Quilt along the motif, and then 1/4" outside it, and then another 1/4" outside of that, etc. You could use larger than 1/4", depending on the motif. I've also heard of shadow trapunto, but I don't think that's what was meant. I just looked at the picture of the quilt you're working on, and it's gorgeous.

Since the quilt is pieced using 30's fabrics wanted to keep that going with the quilting pattern. Thank you so much for the link. I understand how to do it now.
