I have a small quilt top I wanted to do some SID on but the seams are all press open. Will than be OK or will it pop some of the stitching of the seams?

Not advisable to SID on opened seams. Can break the seams.

Could you stitch NEAR the ditch? Put your foot edge on the seam and sew about 1/4" away? On a small quilt I stitched on both sides of the ditch and really liked the way it looked.

OR use a scallop stitch and stitch over the ditch

I did SID in my grandson's quilt that had opened seams and it worked out just fine.

Since, by definition, the "ditch" is the side of the seam without any seam allowance underneath it, it is technically impossible to stitch in the ditch when the seams are pressed open. I agree with JanTx, just outline quilt it.

Maybe try a very narrow zig zag, it will catch just a bit of fabric on both sides.
Nancy Zieman calls this a "wobble stitch" :D
I love to use this as you don't have to be quite as exact as SID with a straight stitch :D:D:D

I would do a serpentine stitch. It happens to be my favorite:-)
