I am going to try making a table runner and I really don't know what size to make it. I have never made one before other than fringing a long red piece one time for a table runner.
What is the usual size or is there such a thing?
Welcome to the Quilting Board!

I am going to try making a table runner and I really don't know what size to make it. I have never made one before other than fringing a long red piece one time for a table runner.
What is the usual size or is there such a thing?
I see them in all sizes. I would think 36 ,was average. Some people want them across the kitchen table so that would be longer...I guess I'm not a big help
It would probably depend on the size of the table. My dining room table always has the leaves in it and so is very long and I like a nice long runner to fit it. It uses the 120" tablecloths
Well I'm in the dark on it so any ideas are helpful!
We don't have a kitchen table -- well my sink is sunk in the kitchen table- we don't use it to eat at.
My dining table is a pool table with a plywood on top! Tablecloth hides the reality and it works for a table! Don't have anywhere else to keep the pool table so it does double duty.
So my table is longer than most! It's no help for figuring out a good size to sell.
Rhonda...do a search for table runners and you can get pretty much an average size of what is out there.
In the Connecting Threads catalog I got today they have kits for table runners. Here are some the sizes of the runners
16 x 40
18 x 44
17.5 x44.5
16 x 41
16 x 32
18 x 42
21 x 46
Hope this helps
It seems that the design will sort of dictate the finished size.
Thank you for all the suggestions! I appreciate it!
It really does depend on the table. I just made one for my cousin it is 16"x62" she has a really long table. But when I make then in general for gifts. I use 12" blocks and then add borders, so they end up a little over 36" long + size of borders.
