    Good morning,
I was at a yard sale the other day, and I found a Sunbonnet Sue quilt top. I may sell the quilt top, but I might finish it and keep it for myself. How are these quilts quilted, traditionally? I don't want to mess it up by doing somthing funky on it! Thanks in advance,
    Nancy

It depends alot on the block design. Many times the empty space around Sue is filled with a simple echo quilting or stiple so she stands out. Then more elaborate quilting is done in the sashing and borders. Is she hand quilted? If so,then it indeed takes a special treatment? I am jealous of you having a Sunbonnet Sue top! Handle with care!

I will handle with care!! I might actually just sell it, since I don't hand quilt and I don't want to ruin her. One seam is ripped, but that is an easy fix. If I do list her, I will do it here.
    Thanks for your help,
    Nancy

I would hand or machine quilt around Sue and then the outline of the square where she is standing on,keep it simple. If there is sashing I would stitch in the ditch. Experiment and see what you like. If the quilt is going to be used daily, it would need more quilting in the blank area aroung her. Sunbonnet Sue is always a treasure.

Thanks, ladies. It has the Sunbonnet Sues on the side on sideways, to look like she is standing up straight when on a bed. Can I hang her on a wall with the Sue's like that? Thanks,
    Nancy

nancylee, my dear, you can do anything you want to with Sue, she won't complain and she will amuse you every time you look at her standing on her bed.
