Default suggestions on how to find a specific color (or close to it)

My daughter-in-law has requested a quilt that is in that new green that you see. It is a pale green and seems to have a blue cast. I saw the color in the Walmart bath dept. But I don't know what that color is called.

I was thinking of buying a wash cloth from them and taking it with me when I looked in fabric stores...however we only have one shop in my area. So thought of looking online, but know that the computer's colors are seldom what it actually is.

That's why I'm asking if anyone knows what that new green is called. It's a light green...I've been told by some that they see blue with a greenish tint when they look at it. For me it is green with blue tint.

I know this is really vague..but just thought I'd give it a shot.

if the Walmart washcloth ''is'' the color you DIL likes, then by all means, have HER buy it ( that way she is to blame if the color isn't right when the quilt is finished!!! ) and carry it with you to purchase the cotton fabric. When you get into ''naming'' a color, every one sees color a little different.....you have blue/green teal and green/blue teal!!!!! I just finished a quilt for a friend who likes ''teal''......until I took her into a fabric store, she had NO IDEA of the wide range of teal colors there are. Don't go by the color name......buy that washcloth and use it.....lay it out on the open bolt of fabric and stand back to see the colors. Buying on line is a gamble, as far as color choices go......sometimes you get ''lucky'' and other times.....well, it's more fabric for the stash!!!!

Another idea would be to go to Lowes or someplace that sells paint and get free paint strips. Let her go and pick the color, then just carry them with you when you shop for fabric.

By the new green do you maybe mean the Pantone color of the year 2013? It's Emerald. http://www.pantone.com/pages/index.a...=21055&from=hp

If so, that ought to be fairly easy to find. I also like the Color Picker at thousandsofbolts.com Go to the website, Find A Fabric, Color Picker. Also if you're looking at a fabric and want to find something with the same color, Color Matcher is right there on the view of the fabric.

I agree with jodimarie, I would also have her buy the fabric and other needed supplies, this way MAYBE she'll understand why handmade quilts costs.

I go along with the others, I would let her choose the fabric so you are off the hook.

If you go onto a fashion site maybe they have a description of the color there. I have also heard them say that emerald is the current color of the year, but, I have seen many colors they say is the color of the year, and it isn't emerald to my mind's eye. What it is casting seems more like a jade color to me. I hope you can find just the right one for her.

Does she live near you? Could you shop for the fabric together? She could see firsthand what goes into making a quilt and be completely wowed by the loveliness of all that fabric all at the same time! Good luck and have fun!

Go to www.hawthornethreads.com. Choose a fabric by color in the menu and go from there, you'll get more options to make your choice and see different fabrics from various manufacturers and designers.
