Painter's tape tip
This tip was on Pinterest this morning and I would do the link but it has already disappeared. Using painter's tape to prevent the machine from eating points. I have used the scrap fabric under the feed dogs but I must say, this works well. I sewed 2 points through with no trouble even with just a single layer of fabric. Yes, you can get the single hole plate for your machine but I am afraid to use one in case I pull the fabric a bit and the needle strikes the side of the single hole. Here is a picture on my machine with the foot off so you can see it

I followed the link on Pinterest but it didn't go to a how to. I stuck 2 layers of painters tape on top of each other, cut it to fit between my feed dogs and stuck it on. I lifted my stitch plate and wrapped the front of the tape piece under it so fabric would not lift it. I did not put a hole in it first, I just sewed through it once, moved my needle one spot to the left for one stitch, moved the needle one spot over to the right and sewed again for the size hole you see in the picture.

Interesting. I'll have to try this. I do have a single hole plate. Ask me how many times I've broken a needle while trying to zigzag on the plate. Ouch. This method would be more forgiving, no broken needle.

I couldn't find my painter's tape so cut a piece of removable Scotch tape to fit between the feed dogs. Lowered my needle to make the hole. I've been piecing all day and the tape is still there working fine. No leader or ender needed!
