The information on tension is great. I recently upgraded to the Tin Lizzie 18DS and love it. My 10 yr granddaughter practiced today so she can quilt her quilt top in the next few days.

I have and love my TL 18. I use Connecting Threads thread and Aurifil, both work great

Welcome from WV. I can only dream of a Tin Lizzy 18 or Sweet Sixteen. Hope your problems get solved quickly and you can be off and running with that great machine.

I have found my TIn Lizzie 18LS to NOT be fussy about thread. I have only found one brand of thread that it didn't like and it often broke. I regularly use Isacord 40 wt. polyestor, Coats and Clark 40 wt. cotton, Star 40 wt. cotton, Signature Pixelles 40 wt cotton, Coats and Clarks polyestor, and Connecting Threads 50 wt. cotton. These threads all work fine in my Tin Lizzie 18LS.
