There are a lot of ways that you can lay it out, the block is a very versitile block, once you get them all done if it is what you are doing I would try laying it out several ways before deciding, you may come across one that you like better,

A really good book to see different layouts of the log cabin block is the Log Cabin Quilt in a Day by Eleanor Burns. I just finished one for a wedding gift and layed it out many different ways before I chose the pattern that I liked. It's at the quilter's right now, but I'll see if I can get a "pre quilted" picture posted.

Also, you can go to your local library (if it's a reasonable size) and check out quilting books that contain the Log Cabin pattern, then photocopy the pattern and instructions. Our local library has several of Eleanor Burns's books.

One thing I love about log cabin patterns is how many different layouts there are!! And it seems people find more all the time. You can't go wrong with a log cabin....people love them!!

It looks like the tradition log cabin to me. The block is traditional. The key is where to place your light and dark fabric & which way to turn the block when assembling your quilt top. This is one block that can make all sorts of different patterns, which is why it has remained so popular throughout the years.

Patty - Wow! I love your quilt!! What great colors.
