This is why our board members rock! Thanks so much - the last couple of trips in, I've skipped the Country Sampler so now I have a great excuse to go! (This is the store I wrote about in a previous post, with gads of eye candy all over the walls and the cool long arm setup.) Both of my Viking dealers are in that neck of the woods, and the gal I'm thinking of for help is Angela from Classic Viking Sewing - she quilts like a mad woman! I have to stop at Joann's anyway, so maybe DH will go for Chinese.

I'll get the pattern info tonight or tomorrow, and see what's up. :D

Here is what I have gotten out of the instructions and the answers given me here and when I called the shop. Now, I have to make these exact units twice. This time with fabrics A & C, then again with fabrics B & D. Here's what I have so far.

First, I had to cut 20 squares out of the light blue that were 6 1/4" sq. Then, I put them on my mat and used my ruler and cut them diagonally TWICE making a total of 80 quarter square triangles or QST. This pic is supposed to show you that I cut on both diagonals at the line, but it's not really clear. Just pretend then.

Then, I had to cut 40 3 3/8" squares and cut those on the diagonal ONCE making 80 half square triangles or HST. Here you can see the triangles hanging out on the diagonal line after I finished cutting. Again, this didn't turn out like I wanted it to either, so just pretend you can see the individual triangles.

Here is where it gets a bit tricky. I did NOT press the QST in half. What I did was take the right side that I was going to sew the HST's to and pressed that in half. Then I pressed all the HSTs in half and they looked like this. Notice the lighter fabric has a big triangle and then a smaller, pressed piece. Also the light red has 2 size triangles, one unpressed, one pressed.

Then I sewed them all together so I have 80 that look like this.

I called the store and asked for a hint or two dealing with all these triangles. The gal mentioned that they were half geese. I do not have any idea what half geese are, but perhaps she meant the first half of geese would be finished. So I played around with my finished pieces and I THINK they'll eventually look like this. We'll find out with the next clue comes out next weekend.

Got my instruction sheets! A big thank you to Patrice and/or Admin for cleaning this thread up, too

The final pieces in the pictures look good! They do resemble half a flying goose (or geese - not enough coffee yet to distinguish the two!), and your count of 80 A & C (med. dark hst to light qst) and 80 B & D (dk hst to med light qst) is right. Coding the fabrics A, B, C & D is brilliant - they could easily get out of control, especially with clues coming out over time like this.

Give me a bit of time, and hopefully I can catch up to you - we can make our mistakes together! Then we'll have our own show  I'll be making trips up there anyway, since my dealers are so close and Country Sampler has all the Sulky Blendables threads :D

It sews together pretty easily. Clue 2 and Clue 3 was a significant amount of cutting and piecing, but it worked itself out. Working on 2 at a time I can alternate between projects. The clues come out every 2 weeks on Saturdays and it may just take me the next week to repeat the "half geese" or whatever they are in time for the next clue when it comes out Saturday.

Patrice a/o Admin, thanks again for cleaning up!!

Once I get the whole top together, I'll post what it looks like.

Shelly Q, I've told all my friends about your tutorials. They are really great! I'll be looking for more! Hint Hint
