I am sure this has been asked and answered many times, but I cant find it. Does it matter which side of the freezer paper you iron onto to the fabric? I want to quilt my daughters name and nicknames on to her quilt using the freezer paper as a stencil, but I have never done this. I am hoping to get help from all my quilters on this board. Thanks in advance.

Iron the shiny side to the fabric -

If you iron the shiny side up, your iron will get icky.

Yes, shiny side will adhere to fabric. You need to keep this in mind if you use it for applique, so pattern pieces are cut in the right direction.

Yep it is the shiny side that has the wax(?) on it which causes it to stick to the paper.
