Default using muslin on the top?

Does anyone actually use muslin for more than the backing? I am in a bit of a financial pinch now, and am starting a new quilt, and could use muslin for the neutral coloring, but 1) would rather use something lighter in color, and 2) really don't know if muslin could be used for patchwork.

So I thought I would ask you guys.

Does anyone use muslin for the piecework and not just the back? How does it do?

Here is a good idea. Wash it first to make sure it doesn't shrink up into a wrinkly mess before using it.

I just recently moved and came across some fabrics I didn't know I had! Is this something you can use?? I doubt that I will use it. It is an off white tone on tone. I will send it to you free of charge; just PM me if you can use it and how much you are looking for!!!

It is the same fabric in both pictures; just different lighting when I took the pictures! The bottom picture is closer to the true color on my iPad.

I've used muslin plenty of times on the top and usually on the back also.

I regularly use a high quality muslin on the front of quilts when I need white ... :-)

use it where ever you like, it bleaches out with time and is very soft to the skin.. all the oldtimers used it in the tops most of the time.. a lot of quilters still use it in the tops

By the way, if you have a Joann's near you, you can often pick up Kona white for about $5/yard if you have a 40% off coupon. I use those coupons for batting and Kona all the time.

I like the permanent press muslin by Roc-Lon. It doesn't get all wrinkly. Walmart has it the cheapest I've found.
