    Default Wadding Help

    Hi Guys,

Can anybody tell me if Quilters Dream Cotton Request Weight is similar in loft and density to Hobbs 80/20?

    Hugs

    Caroline

I have not personally used QD Cotton Request weight. However, Request is the thinnest weight of their cotton line and I am *sure* it would not have the loft of Hobbs 80/20. The manufacturing process for the two batts is different also, as QD cotton is needlepunched and Hobbs 80/20 is not. QD Blend (70/30) might be closer to Hobbs 80/20, but again I have not actually used the QD so cannot be sure about that.

Edit: Here is a link to the QD cotton website:

Although Select weight cotton appears to be closer to Hobbs 80/20 (suitable for both hand and machine quilting), my bet is that it is denser and a lower loft, just because it is needlepunched.

I use the Quilter's Dream-Select regularly, and I agree that it's the closest to the Hobbs 80/20, but I much prefer it, as it is so soft and has a really nice drape. Don't get me wrong, I love the Hobbs too, but prefer more cotton and it still gives a nice definition to your stitches. I find the "Request" too thin for my liking. My local quilt shop had samples of each of their battings actually stitched, and that's how I decided which one I preferred.
