Monday, I visited a new store in the Atlanta area. There was one gondola fully stocked with pegged fabrics; one and two yard mini bolts, fat quarters and bundles, and jelly rolls. I thought the quality of the mini bolts was grainy, had a lousy hand, and a limited selection. I tend to shop around. I get a lot of better fabrics from Walmarts as I travel. (Better of Walmart selection.) Much of this is resold to my 4-H students. The mid grade stuff from JoAnns, Hobby Lobby and the like are personal fun stuff, and the LQS for special gifts and shows. Need dictates quality.

While waiting for the QB digest to pop up this morning, I paid a visit to walmart.com I went to the needle arts section and was amazed at all the wonderful things I found there. You can order on line, and pick up at your local store to avoid delivery charges. Quilters rulers, left handed pinking sheers and rotary cutters, needle felting supplies, lap frames, ruler stands, and lots more. The site is user friendly and attractive. I don't remember it being this nice in the past.

When I was done browsing, I went to the contact us area and left a complement. Then I went to the section where I could leave comments. Boy, howdy, I gave them my two cents worth. I told them that taking fabric from the stores was a mistake, and this "replacement" was a joke. There is a lot of room to write. I spoke my peace, and still had space. Unfortunately, it gets directed to the local store. I asked them to read, and forward to corporate. It may be years before fabric comes back to Walmarts, but we won't win if our feelings aren't known.

Thats for sure. Glad you spoke your mind. We have to keep telling them that hey have made a mistake. My walmart doesn't sell thread or zippers and very little precut material.

I know where you are coming from!!! We used to have a fabric department in our store and they closed it!!! You could pick up some of the same fabrics at Walmart that you could at JoAnns at a lower cost. I was able once to use JoAnns coupons for a piece of fabric. But never again!!

Another board member had posted this number 1800walmart to call corporate to leave comments. I was on hold for avout 10 minutes but they were very friendly and I was able to leave comments with a live person who was very friendly even though I was like you and had plenty to say lol I forgot to mention the coupon deal so I may call them back and leave that comment also. They are supposed to match other stores prices and accept coupons!! You might try that number. I can only hope it helps!!!

I will have to check out the website ~ thanks for posting the information!! Cheryl

We have a full line of fabric at our Walmart...bolts, ect...but there is never any one that works there to cut the fabric...If there is no employees there to cut fabric...you will lose customers...Let me know if they accept Joanns coupons...that would be worth the trip and hunting down an employee

Ours shut down its fabric dept. this year. I was so sad. They had some very nice fabric, Heat and Bond was cheap, ect....I think all ours has now is a few Fat Quarters and charms.

I thought our WalMart was closing it's fabric department but the last time I was there they had a whole new selection and MUCH better quality than what had been there before.

Our local Walmart got rid of the fabric dept a couple of years ago but they still had a sewing notions section. I was looking for some sewing machine lubricant, the last time I was in there and they had.....NOTHING!!!! No thread, needles, etc. Even my local grocery store has sewing notions.

Just curious where in Atlanta is this store? I'm wondering if it's near me? I'm over near Emory. Thanks

our walmart, don't even carry charms or anything... if u go to the school supplies u can get scissors.... they tried back around christmas, with some precuts... they were cheap nylon crap..... i complained, and was told " we tried adding fabric back in , and it just didn't sell" i informed them the dog pound would not even take the crap they called fabric. Quilters want REAL fabric.... u stock it and they will come!!
