Default Wall Hanging for the Mantle

Could any of you gals suggest a pattern for a wall hanging ( about 28 inches square) for over my
daughters fireplace. ? Her living room is basic blues with cream walls. I'd appreciate any ideas what would be
    nice for that.

Thank you and Thanks for all the great ideas I've gotten from reading the Quilting Board.

Without knowing her tastes, one can't really say. I would start with her style and work from there. Is she into traditional, or modern?

I'd like a mini bargello for that size. I am starting an uneven log cabin, but I think it needs to bigger than 28" to get the effect.

I hadn't thought of a wall hanging over a fireplace. Hmmmmm, I like that idea. Food for thought. Can't help you decide what to make, but bet you have fun figuring it out. I'd invite your daughter's input. That could be lots of fun. I have made quilts for friends, when they picked out the pattern and the fabric. Everyone was happy!

That's a nice thought but be careful how close the wall hanging is in relation to the fire ---- We heat our house with a woodstove which is mounted into our fireplace. You have to be very careful about maintaining a certain distance away from the fire with any item that is combustible (burnable).

I strongly agree with Mom3. Also, I like including your daughter with the decisions. It should be lots of fun for the two of you.

The star spin seems to be a popular one among the commoners. I have a few of them up in my house and people seem to be drawn to them. I presume because of the unusual shape. Do a search here on QB. There are lots of examples and tuts.

Labyrinth Quilt. I made the lap size from the pattern and then reduced the pattern to make a wall size.

I really like that one! I am suggesting a carpenter star/wheel using free pattern found on line. by adding borders it can be made any size.
