I agree - all this hoopla takes the fun out of it. Just get together with like minded folks and enjoy the craft. We have a guild of 54 members with no bylaws, no constitution, no committees, no roberts rules of order, and it works! Members had been in other guilds where too much time was taken up with such regulation and they quit as the emphasis was no longer on quilting. Each month the agenda is planned by a team of members and each meeting allows for lots of show and tell. We sometimes have workshops, taught by members, or we have a guest speaker. Dues are $10 per year and the bottom line is that even if there's a limited agenda, maybe just show and tell and some announcements of local quilt shows and sales at LQs, it's enough to just get together with friends!

I guess it depends on what you are looking for. Guilds are a great way to meet people. Unfortunately, they seem to have a lot of different agendas in the membership, i.e. some want it for strictly social, some like to eat, some want to learn, some want to do quilt shows, others think it's too much work, on and on, and on....so, I'm kinda thinking a get together and quilt group would be more for me once I get moved, take some classes, and meet some people.
