My granddaughter is getting married. I want to make her a wedding ring quilt. Question is: Has anyone ever make a quilt from a light weight upholstery fabrics? And did it seem to heavy?

Welcome to the board from Southern California. I think that fabric would be too heavy as well. Most quilts are made from 100% cotton fabrics.

Thank you, didn't want to go to all that planning and it wouldn't turn out nice. This would be my first quilt. I'm excited.

Depending on where you live, and what you are going to back it with... I know I probably would not use batting too.
There are many here who make quilts out of all kinds of fabrics

I just bought a fusible interfacing with the pattern on it. If this is your first quilt that might be a good choice for you. A wedding ring pattern is quite challenging for an experienced quilter.

Welcome from Florida! You may want to try that pattern out with the upholstery fabric and make a pillow out of it before you commit to that pattern.

I think that doing any quilt with curves out of heavy fabric would be the end of your quilting experience and we don't want that! I remember someone who bought cheater fabric for a wedding ring quilt. There were some lovely fabrics, that might be a way to make a special gift. I don't want you to give up!

That would be a heavy quilt. My friend has one her mother made and it is too heavy to sleep under.

Sewing is my passion, I won't give up. I mostly do alterations and make curtains. My daughter-in-law is an upholster and has fabrics left over, she give me the left overs in the granddaughter's favorite colors. I like the idea of trying a pillow first--no waste but gain.

Last year there was a tutorial on the board that was awesome. I'd use quilting weight fabrics. I liked the paper piecing that was used to make the quilt. the instructions were great. Ask Patrice how to find it if you cant find it in a search
