Default Weighted quilt

Has anyone made a weighted quilt? I've been reading about how someone with autism likes that extra weight on then as it calms them down. I googled the topic and lots came up on how to make one but was wondering if anyone has made one and if the recipient liked it.

Thanks

My granddaughter made a small one for her mother, who had Gillian barr disease. Mother loved it. She could get it warm and snuggle her cold feet with it. Mother is better now, but still gets tingles.

Here's a tutorial from Man Sewing. I've never made one.

Here's an article from Duke Energy's "Illumination" website.

There are a couple of links to other sites about how weighted quilts/blankets help those with sensory issues.

I work at Duke Energy in downtown Charlotte, and have found that there are quite a few quilters here in the company. But we're all so covered up with work right now, it seems impossible for us to get together!!

My quilting friend had made a bunch of them. Seems like she buys those plastic beads from JoAnns. She sews rows and stuffs the row with the beads. I think she sews each square with beads locked in.

I made one for a friend whose son has autism, he had one of his episode s and we gave him what was finished and he immediately calmed down. We did the Chan n els else but if I did another one it would be squares and rag quilt style. You need to use a lot of the little p e poets and I she purchased them on line. You need to sew very slow as the pellets shift around and get in the way. You may need a lot of needles.

I've made a couple. It's best to pour poly pellets in the channels, then sew across with a ZIPPER FOOT. You can PM me for questions if you'd like.

I've made 2. The first one I used the 'Man Sewing' pattern and that worked pretty well. 2nd one I made as a Rag Quilt. That was a mess and completely fell apart in the wash. Maybe should have used a wider seam, or a stronger flannel. The poly pellets are pretty expensive, so use your coupons. Walmart sometimes has them for less than Joannes.

I don't know how to pm you but I would like any info you can give me regarding weighted blankets/quilts. My small quilting group has been asked to make some and we are clueless. Thanks so much.
