I went to my first LQS today - just about 10 minuets or so from our house and OH MY GOSH!!! In this quilt shop (as I am sure many others) there are rows and rows of bolts of fabric, and just below that is a shelf with FQ's of all the same fabric. I have been to Joanns before - but this was basically dedicated just to quilting. I was almost in a trance as I walked around.

I want it all. It's a good thing I went after deciding I was just going to look.

It was nice to see some finished quilts too. They had many for sale - but to see a quilt with a binding close up is different than just online.

I can't wait to go back.

I would have loved to have gone with you! There is nothing more inspiring or fun than being with a person the first time they discover a "real" quilt store. It's just great fun!!

One thing I do is wait. When I find something I really like, I leave it where it is and wander through the entire store. If I still really like it after I'm done looking around, then I grab it. This saves me from making too many impulse buys; unless it's an almost empty bolt, which I snatch before anyone else can get it.

I get overwhelmed in qult shops! If I am just looking I will often come out with nothing - if I am looking for something I spend way too much money!

Love love love to visit quilt shops every where I go. Usually have to buy a little something. Love to see all the different styles of quilts, fabrics and patterns that they each have. One of the funnest times of the year is our quilt run the first weekend of June. We hit 15 (or so) quilt shops in 2 days!! I have a group of about 8 of us who all try to go, we usually have only 5 - 6 at a time that can actually make it.
Large quilt shows are wonderful too, so much to look at and touch!!!
