Went to my first quilt guild meeting on Monday
#1
It was interesting but a little overwhelming. The "joiner" train has done left the station for me. I haven't decided whether to join or not. I don't have to drive very far for the meetings so that is a plus. I got the patterns for the BOM they are working on, so I thought I would try to do that this month. I am not much of a joiner at my age. I did a lot for the church for the last 14 years and am a little burned out. Can someone tell me what they get out of guilting guild they belong to. Thank you.

You should join the quilt guild, you will have so much fun!!!!
Also I show my membership card from my guild to Joann's store and get a 10% discount on all purchases! (Joanns will give you the card at the checkout counter so you can carry it with you)
fun way to meet other quilters and we have set up a sew group with the one that I belong to, so much fun!

Hmm, it should be fun. I think you can get discounts (not sure, dont quote me on that) at LQS. Besides meeting a bunch of fun people. I dont really know for sure. But I want to join a guild here too. Im just going to ask them what a guild is all about. They shouldnt have a problem explaining. Keep us posted on your decision :) Good luck and Happy quilting.

Meeting other quilters and getting support from them is the best part of the guild I belong to. We have show and tell every meeting and I am always inspired by the work I see. Often someone has tried a technique that I haven't done before and I can learn from the other member. We always talk about sales, shows, shop hops and new or closing quilt shops in the area. We have a pattern library, a tool box (with tools to borrow), we have demo nights taught by out more experienced members and occasionaly have paid for nationally known quilters to come speak to the group. We have drawings each month (for strips or charm squares or....)and have scheduled some quilt camps where we all get together for the day and sew. There's more, I'm sure, but don't want to take over the whole topic by myself.

I hear you on the burn out factor. I'm not a joiner right now in my life either.
HOWEVER, my guild is a great place to see national speakers and learn some new techniques. Also, meeting others with an interst in quilting is great since sometimes even my closest friends "don't get" my shrieks of joy when I find a new fabric!
