What I call blendables is a fabric that is not quite solid but doesn't have a print to it either. Think how cement looks, its not a solid grey but a number of colors of grey. What I use for blendables is like the "Mirage" collection from Connecting Threads and another one I just started collecting from Maywood Studios called "Shadow Play". That one is bit more mottled than the Mirage but works very well together. I'm working on Quiltville pattern and started using my Mirage but didn't have enough various colors so picked up some Shadow Play to make up the differences and you really can't see much of a difference.

Kona Bay (not Kona cotton) has several lines of blenders. They work especially well with Asian fabrics.

Here's the link to the recent thread Jeanne S mentioned up above. The interpretation of 'blender' can be somewhat personal, but the general idea is pretty consistent.

Another good source of "blenders" or "blendables" is Kona Bay Fabrics <[email protected]> (yes, they are in Hawaii). They sell to wholesalers/stores, but you can find them at nice quilt shops. They are a bit too pricy for my everyday piecing or quilting, BUT they are BEAUTIFUL! and soooooo varied and I'll surely buy some when I have a quilt needing that special touch. Their catalog of designs and colors are wonderful!!!

    Enjoy perusing.
