I was cutting out some blocks this morning, nothing complicated, I just needed a few more squares and rectangles. When I started on the rectangles, my cutter seemed really wobbly.

I actually wrecked my first set of rectangles- of course I was cutting four at a time. I tightened the bolt on the cutter but I don't know if I was just in too much of a hurry or what! Maybe I will try putting in a new blade because I really like this red ergonomic cutter...

I have done something like that and realized for some reason, my ruler was not actually touching the fabric the whole time. There is a lip on one end of the ruler which allows for it to sit above the fabric if I do not place it correctly. Once I made sure the ruler was flat on the fabric, my problem was solved. Hope you have better luck the next time you try to cut your fabric.

Tightening the bolt usually works for me. If not then I check how securely I'm holding down the ruler.

Nope, the ruler was not moving, must have been the cutter...

I have had the bolt on the cutter come loose, a cracked blade--no idea how I managed to do that--and if you're talking about the right handed Martelli rotary cutter--the Olfa blades don't fit it quite right which makes it wobble. It needs the blade with only a small circle in the middle--not the kind that is a circle with tabs.

I have also had a lump in my cutting mat from fleece and flannel cause wonkyness (new quilting word--LOL). And cutting mats that are just crap--they have a rough, pebbly texture instead of smooth & slightly rubbery.
