Our guild just had their last meeting for the year and new positions were elected. I am now the program facilitator. The person who sets up speakers and workshops for our guild. They said it's an easy and fun job but now I'm wondering. Where do I find all these speakers from. I put out a survey asking what members would like to see and goit alot of responses. Alot didn't like the artsie speakers. Seems we had alot of those this year and wanted more traditional type ones. Does anyone else do this and have ideas? I haven't met yet with former committee so I'm sure I'll learn the ropes. these speakers would be for the year 2012 since most get booked fast. Say some prayers I do a good job and make our group happy.

Wow! Good Luck! I used to have to coordinate tuesday evening speakers for one of my jobs. It was always a little difficult as some people turned out to be really great, but terrible at being a public speaker.

Only one suggestion from me, would your guild enjoy hearing form someone who coordinates the distribution of charity quilts? It certainly is not about improving technique or anything, but I think anyone who has donated would like to know more about the projects they have donated to and see some pictures....

Try booking some designers. I know that Patrick Lose goes to quilt shops and meetings, etc. He is on facebook and a wonderful positive person.

Congrats and good luck. Glad they told you it's an easy job. In our guild they have the next person to hold that particular position work for one year with the program facilitator. Then the next year they are the program facilitator. Too bad your guild doesn't do that. Ask them for help, I am sure they will assist you as you learn the ropes.

good luck. How about a general program? Electric & Gas companies have speakers. Also your State cooperative extension service has speakers these are usually free. What about a county or state fair commission person talking about how to enter their compitions and what the judges look for.

Check out some of the members on the board, ask if they do demos, ask them to PM you their rates, and you will have a starter list. Also, many quilter's who have personal sites, also do demos for groups. I hope this is helpful. I am willing to help if I can.
