Unless it's a form of foundation piecing, I'll bet they still use paper (or freezer paper). You're just not sewing directly through the paper, so there's not the hassle of removing paper.
It works great from some patterns, but is impractical for others.
And if it's on a foundation, that really limits you to the patterns you'd be able to PP efficiently.
Judy Mathieson, of Mariner Compass fame, used the freezer paper method in her most recent (?) MC book. It works very well.

Try youtube. I know I've seen a video for someone who teaches a folding, paperless piecing. I just don't remember where I saw the video.
It made sense when I saw it. I just haven't felt like re-educating myself.
Might also search this board. I'm sure there are a few people here who use that method.

I think this may be the technique where you copy your block onto freezer paper, cut the freezer paper along all of the piecing lines, iron the freezer paper to the wrong side of your fabrics, cut 1/4" from each freezer paper edge, then piece back together. When you make the seams, they are through the fabric only; the freezer paper edge makes it easy to make sure the seams are lined up.
I think Sharon Schamber's book on Piecelique explains the technique.

Yes I'd reckon that means freezer paper piecing. I pieced my own crossed canoes quilt with it.

It looks complicated but only because she photographed every single step! It's really easy once you start.

I'll stick with my original thought of "paperless" meaning "no paper to rip off" - whatever her method might be.
You know, it could be the Sew-Easy(?) stuff. I used it for my first PP block ages ago. It's like an interfacing, so it STAYS in the block, no need to remove it. And it goes through the printer. I actually liked the method, except it was pretty pricey having to buy the stuff - 5 sheets for $6+ dollars.
What a great blog you have! Very, very lively.

Thanks for all your replies, I did not know there were even ways to do this and it sounds like there are several. I will have to go to the class and let you know how she does it.
MTS thank you for complimenting the blog. It has been fun. I will check out the quilter blogs.
