Default What the quilting world needs.....

Is there a thread out there that is a dark or bright color when first sewn, but turns to a more neutral or light color when washed? I'm practicing FMQ, and discovered I'm infinitely better at it when I can better see where I've already quilted. Of course when I FMQ a quilt, I use thread that blends with the fabrics, and becomes "lost" in the quilt. I'm forever stopping to figure out where I should quilt next....Anyone know of a product like this?

I have not tried it myself but I have heard, at least with light colors, that a blacklight can make a thread more visible. I don't think there is any kind of thread like you describe that changes color after washing.

If you position a desk lamp behind the sewing area to provide a side, raking light across the top of the quilt it will be much easier to see where you've been.

The light directly above the needle or the arm of the machine visually removes the shadowed valleys that help you find where you've already stitched.

I'm so glad you asked this as I have this issue too. I'll try positioning a light as suggested. Thanks!
