I am making 9 inch potholders. I want to know what I should use inside them that will protect a persons hands and surface when used as a hot-pad. Any ideas?

Only cotton batting.

I use 1 layer batting and 1 layer "Insul-Bright". You can get it at Joann Fabric.

I've used a Therma Flec Heat Resistant Cloth sales for around $8 a yard but you get lots of pot holders, mits & pads from it. Comes in quilted & non quilted and a couple different colors. Here's a link to a supplier:

I've also filled some of mine with cotton batting and use kitty litter that I put a few drops of scented oils such as cinnamon, apple, lavender, etc and made them to be used as hot pads. When you place a hot dish on them the aroma fills the room. PPl loved them as gifts!

I use a layer of cotton batting between 2 layers from old jeans.

I bought a new ironing board cover and used the batting and insulated fabric inside potholders and years ago used pieces of flannel.

I use 1 layer of insul-bright, and 1 layer of warm and natural batting.

I recycle old bath towels as batting. works great.

Just on the one pattern I use, I have used old sweatshirts.It is so simple to make and I have never been burned through it.
I guess I am cheep. :)
