I buy a teflon fabric at Joann's to add as an inside layer to mine as well as cotton batting if I'll be using to get pans from oven. If just a hot pad I just use the batting.

Insulbrite, with the shiny side toward the heat, and a layer of cotton batting, (Warm Tater is great) on the "hand" side.
