I love your idea of a picnic quilt. Just remember, they will be traveling light and may not have the back to take it. I'm sure they will love it and will use it often once they return.

I don't necessarily expect it to go to Europe, though I wouldn't be sad if it did. They just do so much traveling I thought it would be useful instead of sitting in a closet "too nice to be used" (Grrr). I think the 60x70" range is a good size, the final size will depend on the pattern. I'm trying to draft something that gives the illusion of movement with rectangular and square hst's and all I'm coming up with is wonky Christmas trees.
