Making childrens clothes from quilting fabric?
#1
Hi...just curious...do any of you make little girl's dresses from quilting fabric?
I have a friend who wants to make dresses to sell and she keeps looking at quilting fabric because of the fabric patterns. I thought it wouldn't be suitable, being a slightly looser weave.
Anyone done this? And how did it go?
Thanks
Janice

Current quilting fabric is a tighter weave than in the past. I have made quite a few outfits from it. But, if she wants to make a profit, using high quality, $10 a yard fabric would probably not work out.

why not? it is good quality cotton- makes great clothes...until the quilting bug started running rampant across the country the cotton's in the fabrics stores were mostly made for clothing- it has just been the past 10 years or so that the manufacturers figured out they could expand their market by calling it 'quilting cottons'
i've been sewing for 43 years- most of the clothes i made were from cottons- the same cottons that people are now using for their quilts...of course i used them for quilts too- the scraps that were not used in the clothes.
