I upholstered a couple of cars for my husband and finally told him I wasn't going to do any more. He bought a regular upholstery machine and did it himself and did a wonderful job using the old upholstery for patterns. However he would faint if he was asked to make a quilt. He's really good about threading my machine for me since my vision is so poor and taking out and replacing the bobbin case for a good cleaning. Guess that's men's work!

My grandsons are all taught to use my sewing machine. All make their own pillowcases at 7 and take a week of sewing camp at 9. They love it! After all, just like girls, boys can do anything!

Sure you can! We used to have a male employee who sewed. He was the one that fixed the kids clothes when they were torn. He used to ask me sewing questions and we'd have big discussions at the office about it (much to my husband's annoyance )

I'm glad you found a way to work around your injury. Now is a good time to encourage him to try a little block or two, then he will be hooked. Sure hope your owie is getting better

My 12 yo grandson has already made a quilt square. He chose the Celtic Cross pattern and the fabric. Learned how to read directions and to measure and then cut the fabric with the rotary cutter. He also learned the difference in ironing and pressing. And to top it off he learned to operate the sewing machine and his 1/4" seams were perfect!

We helped him stretch the block over a painting canvas, and stapled to the back of the canvas. He signed it and gave it to his mom for her birthday. He was one proud young man!

Even guys need to have these skills!
