If the center is white, I would go with white background. If cream centers.....cream background.

I vote for the white---just looks "cleaner/crisper" to me.

Cream blends better with the tones you've picked. Looks more elegant to me. While the white seems just a tad harsh.

I agree with feline fanatic's assessment. It really depends on what you want to emphasize. You could make some of each and alternate them in your quilt with or without sashing.....

Personally I like white when the colors used are bright and clear; I like cream when colors are not so definitive or need 'something' to meld or blend them together. I liked your block for sure but it hard to make a call from the computer monitor. Let us see what your choose.
