Why not use 1/2" seam?

Don't forget that patterns are based on a 1/4" seam. It took me some time to adjust from regular sewing to quilt piecing but stick with the accurate 1/4" seam. I also had to slow down the speed of the machine or my heavy foot.
Maybe your previous quilt came apart due to the quilting more than 5 inches apart? Hang in there and know you will enjoy the process.

One of my first quilting books back in the 70s was by Barbara Johanna. She advocated using 1/2" seams. Most of my quilts made with quilting cottons have 1/4" seams to reduce bulk. I make denim quilts for graduation presents and use 1/2" seams for durability. I often use 1/2" seams in baby quilts for the same reason.
