:thumbup: Does anyone have a formula for figuring yardage for a block? Example you are going to make a 12' block and you need 20, you are using 4 colors 1 color uses a 4x 11 strip how many yards would you need to purchase? Thanks so very much.

I suppose one could use graph paper and chart it out -

and then add a bit to allow for shrinkage, fussy cutting, and cutting errors

go to this website and enter the size and shape of each piece in your block and tell it the number of blocks you need to make it will give you the yardage required for each piece.

in one yard of fabric (36') you can cut (9) 4" strips...if your fabric is 44" wide you would get (4) 11" pieces...9x4=36 pieces that are 4"x11"...of course if your fabric is only 40" wide you will only get 3 11" strips so you would have 27 4"x11" pieces.

I buy my fabrics most times in 5 or more yards and don't worry how much I can get out of it. If not enough I add more pieces until I have enough. Cutting strips, don't forget to add a little for straightening up if they aren't straight.
