If I want a yo-yo that is about 2" in diameter, finished size, what size circle of fabric do I need to cut?

If I had to guess (and I really don't know), I would think somewhere between 4 1/2 and 5". You're going to be turning it over 1/4", so that takes a half inch and you need to cover it on the back at least 1" on each size, so if you need a 2" finished yo-yo, that would be 4 1/2" right there. I'm interested in what other people say.

I am using 4" diameter and the yo yo is 1 3/4". I turn in 1/8" approx. I agree with Quilter7x. Would make 1 using 4 1/2" and 1 using 5" and then decide.

I read the title to this post and thought you wanted help making yo yo's. Boy was I shocked when thats not what it was about. I made about 100 yo yo's about a year ago because I wanted to make a yo yo quilt...well thats as far as i got. I got really bored making them. But I still have them for one of those "Just in case" times that I think I still want to make the quilt. Good Luck.

What size diameter did you end up cutting, 4 1/2" or 5"?

I ended up doing a 4" because I thought a 5" would be too big, and my circle cutting ruler only had whole sizes. The yo-yo's turned out a good size for my project. So, I'm happy. :)
