Fun & Funky Chickens Block Swap - Sign Ups Close Aug. 30, 2012

Why I MUST participate....
We moved to a new home last summer and discovered a small scorpion problem. Everyone in the area says chickens will eat the bugs around the house and even the scorpions SO.....
Hubby ordered 8 chickens that arrived mid February. He's spent the last 5-6 weeks constructing a coop. I painted the egg box lids and letters "EGGS". It's hubby's master piece and his chicks..well they are spoiled. We did have to rename Ginger... George... (The babies call him Nugget..) (so, 7 chicks and a rooster) You see hubby in the picture feeding them corn and teaching them he's a good guy.
So SEE I just HAVE to join and make him a fun Funky Chicken throw!!! I'm thinking Texas chick and funky coop and..what do you think of scorpion? The whole reason we got the chicks...

Welcome to this swap Sheri! LOL, George and his girls are more than spoiled. My goodness!
I am curious though... are you feeding them the scorpions or are you going to let them run loose to keep the scorpion population down?
We have 8 chickens running loose since last fall after harvest, so they can keep the bug population down. We were quite infested with earwigs last year. Haven't seen one yet. But! Now that we are out a lot those chickens are going to have to go to their pens until after harvest again. Too much chicken dew everywhere like the decks, front porch, front sidewalks, etc. They are hilarious though. We feed our dog on our back porch and everymorning those hens are after his dog food. LOL
Love your chicken coop.

I can tell you Chickens will eat anything and the great thing is the eggs you get in return. I also am thinking of joining this swap it sounds like fun. You can check out this web site for info on scorpions and a small piece on chickens

According to this they are good controls for scorpions.

Gosh ladies thank you for the pest info. I'm sending it all hubby's way. He's in charge of bug control.
Linda, as soon as there's no way for the babes to escape they'll get to roam the yard. I'm guessing sometime next week.
I'm excited for this swap. I looked at the past ones and got fun ideas. I promise though.... No scorpions.

Thought maybe some of you would like a few photos for inspiration! You might think I am crazy but that is ok. I snapped a few photos while out enjoying my young chickens. We have white crowned black bantams, white silkies and a variety of others. Oh, the last photo is the girl showin' off her nails. She certainly doesn't need knox gelatin to make it long and strong.
