March to June 2015 Wall Hanging Swap
#31
You can do a mini if you like but just make sure it can be hung on a wall. It should be at least larger than a mugrug which is around 8" x 8". I don't like to put any numbers on it because then there is always someone who questions if theirs will be okay for this swap. So just think if the size would be something you would want for a wall hanging.
I just dont' want them to be the size of a coaster LOL

In my mind, a mini would be 15 - 22 inches. Ballpark, give or take. But a lap quilt would be around 48" (ballpark). So... I know you aren't telling anyone it has to be a certain size... But if I get mine between 15 - 48", then it sounds like I would be golden?
I guess I need to go search for the previous swap to see examples as well.
Kind regards,
Tracy

The size of 15 to 22" is a great size. Looking through the last swap you will see all different sizes of WHings. Fun is the name of the game.
If my quilt works out right the center will be 10x 10" plus whatever border/s I add to it. I may make each of the 25 blocks a little bigger so the quilt will be more substantial, but I don't think I need to. It is all trial and trial again! There is also a possibility of doing attic windows for each block, or some sashing, all to be decided as I go forward.
I do start early in the time line so if I decide changes are necessary, there is time for plan B, C, D......
Have fun.

Part of the fun is being able to use different sizes and experiment with something you've not done before.
Now if I am making one as I am a miniaturist and more comfortable with small I would be making mine less than 18" at least. And that size is more than I like.
But others are more comfortable with larger sizes like 35" - 40" or so. as long as it can be hung on a wall without being too huge to hang comfortably then you are fine.
I'm sure it takes trial and error to find what size you like to work with.
Also keep in mind not everyone has lots of wall space. But some also will use them as table toppers or put them on the back of a couch or chair etc. Just some things to think about when you consider the size you use.

Good morning swap buds. A few days ago I treated myself to this during my commute to work. Made my day a happy one and want to share it.
