2014 Birthday Swap 2.5 sign up now !!!!

2.5 Candy Birthday swap is now open for sign ups and will remain open until we get 35 people to join or February 19th.

Hello and welcome to the 2.5" Candy Birthday Swap.
this is how this swap will work:

1. VERY IMPORTANT this is a year long commitment.
2. PM me your name address, EMAIL, and your birthday (month and day)
3. Get your packages of 50 unique 2.5" candy squares ready to be mailed.
4. Starting for March I will send everyone a list of who is celebrating a birthday that month so you can send out their "candy present". I will send out the list on the 20th of each month.
5. Birthday person please keep track of who you received your candy from please let me know if you have not received a package from someone.
6. Sit back and wait for your birthday then go to your mailbox and enjoy little packages all month long!
7. Please post on the thread when you have mailed your birthday package and of course wish them a Happy Birthday.
I am going to limit this to the first 35 people and only address in the USA (for postage sake Sorry).

The general swap rules apply: RULES FOR SWAPS AND SIMILAR ACTIVITIES - Updated 8 December 2010

In addition the following rules apply:

1. Please make sure to acknowledge everything you receive by posting to this thread. It would be faaaaaaaaaaaboulous if you also include photo(s).
2. Any participant who fails to send all parcels expected in any given month will be immediately and permanently dropped from the mailing list.
3. If that participant has already received parcels for her/his own birth month, that participant will also receive a Negative Feedback annotation.

Any questions please feel free to post them in this thread...because someone else probably has the same ones!
This is our second year for this swap .....the first year went well and many friends were made. :)
Barb :)

I am in for this birthday swap. It was a lot of fun last year!
Just a quick note, there are a couple of scrappy square quilts on the Islandbaik.com site for Quilted in Honor. There are some really nice free quilt patterns there.

I am excited about being part of this group again this year. Everyone was just great!! Our fearless leader, Barb, did an awesome job. I hope we have the old ones back, and I hope we have lots of new ones.

letsquilt 02-06-2014 05:20 AM

I have a question, do all squares have to be different fabrics? I mean 50 different fabrics?

I believe she does want 50 different fabrics. Part of the object of the swap is variety. And boy are we rewarded!! It's a blast!

What is a candy square. I am still relatively new to the new world of quilting--my granny taught me to quilt in the 1950s. I know a lot of the new expressions and love the new way of scrappy quilting--but candy square is a new one to me.

Count me in. I had so much fun last year.

They have10" Layer Cakes, 6.5" Charm Packs and Honey Buns, turn overs and Honey Combs. http://www.unitednotions.com/equivalent-measures.pdf "Candy" is another name for the little 2.5" mini charm packs. And they're addicting without the calories!

jarenie 02-06-2014 01:50 PM

Count me in. I have need of more 2.5 inche squares. I love them.

Bullock2us 02-06-2014 02:43 PM

barbarakibler23 02-06-2014 06:32 PM

Hello ladies...sign up is going well...with our 12 veterans returning from last year we have already added 4 more quilters!

To answer some questions (you did great SheriR thanks :) )
let's quilt: yes all fabrics need to be different. 50 different to each birthday girl.

oldtnquiltinglady: candy square just a sweet term for 2.5" square

A charm pack is 5" you could cut a charm pack into 4 equal pieces and have almost enough squares for four different people. (I think charm packs have 44 pieces...check for doubles).

Hope this helps and I hope you join the fun......you will LOVE your birthday month!

Barb

Hi, I would like to be part of the swap again this year. Lots of fun!

barbarakibler23 02-08-2014 07:15 PM

Update:

We have 21 so far joining us this year.....:)

happylab 02-08-2014 09:34 PM

This sounds like fun, I'm interested, but have some questions. How many sets of 50 squares do we end up sending out? I'm assuming it's a total of 35? Do we just mail them in a baggie and then in an envelope? How much leeway do we get to set up for the next month? I guess I will get my questions answered as we go along. Do the 50 squares need to coordinate. Or can they be any type of cotton fabric (like mixing 30's with batiks, etc)? I'm sending my PM now.

barbarakibler23 02-09-2014 10:09 AM

Hi Happylab..thanks for joining us.
Sign up continues for a few more weeks but we will stop taking people when we hit 35. That means you will send out 34 (ourself is 35) and you will receive 34 in return on or around your birthday. It sounds like a lot to send out but it is over a year. Our first month that we will send out is March and we have 3(so far) people with birthday in March. Start getting your stacks of 50 different squares ready(100% cotton)...do not have to coordinate..ready for mailing. When I give you the addresses on the 20th of each month that will give you enough time to get them packaged and mailed out in time for their birthday.
Hope that answers your questions.
Barb

Can this be washed or unwashed fabrics?

barbarakibler23 02-09-2014 08:08 PM

I believe either is fine....nicely pressed is best !

barbarakibler23 02-09-2014 08:09 PM

10 more days for people to sign up.........looking forward to see who else joins us.

This is a fun swap for sure! To give you an idea of how they can be packaged and shipped, Here's a sample of what I've received so far. I found if you can get it flat it costs less to ship (under a dollar).

pjjandme 02-10-2014 12:15 AM
