As of today, I have received candies from everyone. Thank you all. Lots of square everywhere.
Here is a baby quilt I made with last year Birthday Candies and SheriR's Swap. It used up all my pinks. Baby girl is due May, and I am not so motivated to quilt it...

SheriR 04-10-2014 07:02 PM

ahwu! That is so cute!!! It almost makes me wish I were having a baby. Well NOOOOO :D ha ha ha but some baby girl is going to be happy!!!!

thanks
Barb

Yup, those are the ones. I have no pattern, just figured out the math. For the alternate "X" blocks you need 4 squares of background fabric, each 4.5" square. For the points I used more 2.5" squares. I laid them in the proper corners of the background fabric and sewed diagonally across them. You can figure it out by looking at a picture.

Here is an actual pattern if you'd rather use one:

Ok, as promised I have pictures of my goodies received today. These first two photos are beautiful squares from Barb. The first photo shows my birthday squares, and the second one shows my two contest prizes. See why you need to be playing these contests? Thanks so much Barb! Love all of these.

Oops... sorry. Done!

sewbizgirl 04-11-2014 07:55 AM

Alice, I LOVE your pink baby girl quilt. Isn't it great to be able to make a scrappy with no two fabrics alike? That's why these swaps are so worth it!

I just located Jenny Doan's tute on the Arkansas Crossroads pattern, if anyone wants something a little more "visual"...

Not really... SherriR has a candy swap going on right now that you could join and have candy by June!

I hope people will continue to check this thread between now and KarenG's birthday in mid-May. Would love to 'talk' with all of you and besides that, I'll be showing my Ark Crossroads quilt top when I get it together! LOL...

Barb

Ha ha ha... maybe so! The prizes are neat! Congrats benndm.

I got a squishie today from Karen G, so I'm still a birthday princess. Take a look at the beautiful charms she sent! The bottom row is all gorgeous batiks, but the other 4 rows all go together. Looks like they are all Chez Moi fabrics. So pretty! Thank you so much Karen. Chez Moi is one of my favorite designers so I will keep these all together in their own bag, and use them for something all by themselves. I think I'm going to round up all the batiks and do something just with them, too. I'm so excited about what I can do with all these goodies you ladies have sent. Only two more squishies due to come my way, then I'll start enjoying everyone else's birthday goodies vicariously.

SheriR 04-11-2014 02:48 PM

Sewbizgirl thanks for the swap shout out! It keeps my candy happy until my birthday... February! :D

I do love it, if I wasn't making these 1inch Hex's with the extra 2.5 squares, this is a quilt I will do. I am making me a couple of scrappys like this pic I made. Gave it to a BFF who was down in the dumbs before xmas and now I want one and well I just might as well make two.

Grannyrosie - I love that quilt. I have been sorting my candy by color but I wasn't sure what I would do with them. I really like yours. Thanks for sharing.

Wow, be away for a while and all kinds of things happen. Life just got in the way and I didn't have time to check into the board for about two weeks.

Congratulations Barb on the refinance. I am sure that is huge relief.

Also, I do enjoy the games, even though I have not participated in the last three. My FT job has been kicking my you know what.

Also thanks to everyone for posting all the pattern ideas.

I am doing a color fading into the next color quilt (I don't really know what to call it) with most of the squares. I've gotten a lot more since I took this pic and am able to fill in the colors better. This is only the top half.

bjsmith57 04-15-2014 03:26 PM

I received my lovely squares from Nurse Bonnie today along with a lovely card.

Thank you so much Nurse Bonnie:)

sewbizgirl 04-15-2014 03:34 PM

Love that quilt layout, mrshalibut! Like a rainbow... That will be one awesome quilt!

SheriR 04-15-2014 03:45 PM

Wow mrshalibet. I live it. Such great ideas here.

benndm 04-15-2014 04:04 PM

Mrshalibut I love your faded layout. I would love to try to make one but I think I need a big design wall which I don't have. Maybe some day. I'll add it to the list. Be sure to show us the finished quilt top.

Thank you benndm, I will. I don't have a big wall either. I just put it on the floor, which is tricky because I have cats. Anyone who has cats knows they run and then slide through all the blocks, fight with each other on the blocks, roll on the blocks and then run away with some of the blocks stuck to their fur. I find them all over the house. I have to work fast!

sewbizgirl 04-16-2014 07:53 AM

That's my problem too... no design wall. For the AR Xroads quilt I'm working on I have to trot up and down the stairs to lay it out on a spare bed! I've made lots of trips up and down. At least I'm burning some good calories, LOL.

Here's another idea I saw, for using our candies...
http://www.thecalicocottagequiltshop...3#.U06eAVclC2Q
You'd just have to add in your own fabrics for the stars.

letsquilt 04-16-2014 12:15 PM

Oh I love that pattern. I like all the patterns that's been shown.
