February 2013 Doll Quilt Swap "Strips and Stripes" Sign Up
Sign up time for the February 2013 Quilting Board 42nd Doll Quilt Swap!
Everyone is welcome to join us no matter what your skill level may be. Making and sharing doll quilts offers a wonderful opportunity to try new techniques, use up scraps in your stash – or an excuse to buy new fabric – and it’s a great way to make new quilty friends. Here are the details. I know they are long and boring, but please read them. Really! As always, rules for this swap also agree with the general guidelines for all Quilt Board Swaps – Read here http://www.quiltingboard.com/member-...-a-t20154.html Doll Quilt Swap #42 – February 2013 Theme: Strips and Stripes – What does this mean? You decided! You can do a string pieced quilt, an abstract with strips of fabric, slice your strips and make a mini bargello. OR you can use striped fabric in your quilt – always a challenge! Or both strips AND stripes. SIGN UP: Easy As 1-2-3 - 4 1. To join the fun, just send me a PM no later than NOON (EST) on January 31, 2013 2. You will not be able to sign up if you have any outstanding quilts from previous months 3. Please let me know whether you are able to swap internationally as we have a few members who are outside the USA. 4. Let me know you have read the guidelines and make sure your QB mailbox isn’t full. Partner Assignment: Partners will be assigned on February 1st. Find your partner at our Group Home here http://www.quiltingboard.com/groups/...group-g14.html Mailing Deadline: You must have your quilt in the mail no later than February 28th. If you do not think you can meet that deadline, you might want to wait a month or two until your schedule frees up and you don’t feel pressured. DOLL QUILT SWAP GUIDELINES SIZE: Doll quilts can be between 12”x12” to 24”x24” or any size or shape in between. If your finished quilt measures 24" x 26", or 11" x 13" it's fine. No worries or excessive rules for this swap. MATERIALS: Most participants use cotton, but you can use any other natural fiber like wool, linen or silk. EMBELLISHMENTS: Let your creativity rule. Add beads, buttons, ribbon, lace, rickrack, or whatever if you feel like it. Or add nothing at all. It’s up to you. CONSTRUCTION: Pick your technique. Doll quilts may be pieced, appliquéd, wholecloth, quilted by hand or quilted by machine. All quilts should have binding. LABEL: Please add a label or sign your quilt on the back with your name and the date. It is a wonderful record of your work and years from now, it will help your partner remember who made this magnificent work of art! If your quilt is reversible and you don’t want to sign it, please include a card or attach a removable tag with your Quilting Board name or real name if different. MANNERS: Don’t for get to thank your partner. A simple post on the thread for the month is terrific, but a PM is nicer still. Please leave feedback for your partner. HELP YOUR HOSTESS KEEP TRACK: When you mail off your quilt, please send me a PM. Also send one when you receive a quilt you’re your partner. This will help me keep track and to ensure that everyone receives a quilt. PHOTOS: At the Quilting Board we love photos! A big part of the doll quilt fun is seeing what everyone has created, but as with most things in life, there is a little etiquette to follow. Usually the receiver will post a photo, but not everyone has a camera, so please photograph your quilt before you send it just in case. Don’t post a photo until your partner receives your quilt so the surprise won’t be spoiled. If you cannot post a photo, please ask your partner to do so. PARTNERS: Once sign up has ended, I will assign partners. I will try to pair you with someone you haven’t had as a swap partner previously. You will make a quilt for your partner and s/he will make one for you. Please PM your partner to share physical addresses. Do not post addresses on this thread. Although there is a theme and it is often sender’s choice, it is always nice to ask if your partner has any preferences. COMMUNICATION: If something unexpected comes up and for any reason you cannot meet the deadline or need to drop out of the swap, please let me know as soon as you know. If you take the time to communicate any difficulties, I can make sure things work out favorably for you and your partner with no hard feelings as a result. If, however, you just disappear off the face of the earth, you will not be permitted to participate in future swaps until you make good on your commitment. |

You are back as hostess! I know that you have been rebuilding your life after H. Sandy.
Don't know yet if I will join the swap this time - new job with long hours starts in Feb, but I do have an affinity (maybe an obsession) for striped fabric, so let me think .... |
I'm in again (got no willpower at all), I very rarely use stripes in my quilts so this should be interesting :)
PMing you now, have read the rules. Welcome back Krystyna :) Did you hear me applauding loud and clear from Aussie land for the great job Liza did ?? |
Interesting choice....I am in too!
I'm in. Will send a pm.

Krystyna- glad you're back...this should be a fun one..sending pm. thanks

Don't forget ... you can use striped fabric ... or create something interesting with strips. Personally I'm thinking abstract and interesting.
Pm'd you in Again!!!!
there really are so many possibilities with the stripes and strips...lots of fun for February.....getting my graph paper out now.
Krystyna..............Welcome back to the board, we have all missed you, more than you know. I am in for this February Doll Quilt Swap & already have my top done!! :D The idea just came to me & I sat down & whipped it right up. Now all I have to do is finish it!!
:D :D :D :D |
Thanks for the warm welcome back!
Miss Sulabug, you are tooooo fast! But good for you. I was just gifted with a Simplicity Strip cutter so I am happily making strips of all kinds of things. Where we will end up is anyone's guess. Does anyone have this machine? It can be a challenge to feed the fabric in straight and keep it coming out the other end smoothly. |
Welcome back K, you were missed, in spite of the wonderful job QuiltingKrazy did!! I am in. I am weak. I am happy. I am in.
I just picked up one of those strip cutters. Was on clearance at Joannes, I played with it the day I brought it back, but haven't had any cutting to do that was worth getting it out. I, too, wonder about the accuracy I will get with it. I guess i will see. |
I may do this one. I have an idea already, but I want to make sure it works first. ;) Will let you know before the deadline. :)
count me in. I have strips already cut, great way to use them, cuppy
I have scrapes and strips. and scraps of strips, and strips of scraps so I think i wil sew a scrappy strippy doll quilt. Or is it a stripe, strip, scrap. Any way , please include me! Thank-you!
I'm in! Going to dig for stripes. Strips of stripes.
Just picked up a copy of Quilting Arts simply because there is an article on quilting with tiny strips!
Krystyna , welcome back!! I think I am going to sit this one out, got issues to straighten out. everyone have fun~!!
Yesterday I mentioned the issue of Quilting Arts with the interesting strip quilts. Well, last night I finally had a moment to sit down and read two articles on them. The first was about the artist and the second was her technique. I almost fell off my chair (while wrapped in my new quilt :)) when I read that she lost her studio in Hurricane Irene! There was a photo of her studio and it looked just like mine, except her chair remained upright. Well this is too weird - my decision to work in strips after the flood sort of mirroring her experience (except that she is famous and I am not :D) so I just emailed her. Why? Who knows, but I did. Anyway, if you're interested in her work, here is her website.
very cool K!
Hmmm... Sounds like fun. Count me in too! :)

The art quilter I mentioned above, Ann Brauer, wrote back to me! What a sweetheart she is. I never in a million years thought I'd hear from her but ... surprise! I was so thrilled. I'm hoping that maybe in the summer I can visit her studio. That would be so much fun!
Finished my very scrappy, strippy top today. It's been awhile since I've been in on one of these swaps-- I'm very excited :)
Okay, I'm in! PMing shortly! :)

the Strippy/Stripey is finished.....just a few more days for partners! |
I just finished one except for the binding, but I think I am going to experiment with some others before deciding on which to give away. Having fun with FMQ on these, too!
I noticed this swap is listed as a 2012 February Doll Quilt Swap. But, it is the 2013 swap, right? I find it hard myself to realize we are already to the end of January 2013! How does that happen? LOL
Thank you for telling me what year it is, Linda. Yes, it's for 2013.
I to participate, will pm
Just finished my Strip DQ hope who ever gets it likes it, it's great to be ahead of the game...LOL
Donna |
Have a fleeting idea what I might do for my DQ this month.
Gotta love Australia - devastating floods AGAIN in the northern states, bushfires still raging in the southern states and here in Tassie, I have the FLU ! Why do I have the worst dose of flu that I have had for many many years Nd its the middle of summer. Lovely sunny weather beckons me outside and I am barely able to walk to the bathroom. :(. :(. |
Sometimes things just don't seem fair, but I surely feel for you.....having the flu is awful...hope its duration is short.
I'm in yay my first swap!! A doll quilt shouldn't be to hard right :o
Tick Tock ... just a few hours left to sign up ... here's who I have so far. Am I missing anyone?
