this version of the swap is closing. MadeinMaine will start a new one. please watch for the announcement.

those already participating in this old version willl be carried over to the new one.

let the fun begin and continue!
**********************

I am shamlessly stealing this idea from another website... But I thought with all the hubabaloo going on with the upcoming holidays, it may be nice to take a break, make a (relaxing!) 12.5 inch block that may be out of our normal realm of construction, and get some fun mail in return.

For each month, you will make one block for an assigned partner who will make you one in return. The exact details/rules are listed below.
Everyone is busy. This is intended to be a fun break from all the projects we are working on.

1. You will receive a swap pal name and address along with the color scheme or theme of their quilt.

2. You will have 1 month to make one blocks for that person and send it to them. The blocks must be 12 1/2" x 12 1/2". You can make them in a traditional fashion, paint them, sew things to them, embroider them, stencil them, or anything else you like. It can be plain or simple, just make sure to follow your swap pals specifications so their project can be unified.

3. Your name will be assigned to someone else who will then do the same for you.

4. At the end of the month all the names will be reassigned and at this time new members will be added or current members can have their names taken off the list.

5. To join, PM MADEINMAINE your real name, address, EMAIL, and a "theme" you would like your block to be. For instance, a "blue nine patch block," "green and brown," or "cats."

Madeinmaine is your hostess for this swap!!

MadQuilter 10-23-2009 01:00 PM

Gosh, every time I read your name it transfers to "blueberrytones" or "blue baritones" - my brain somtimes frightens me. lol

What a fabulous idea. Even I can do a block in a month. I'd like to be in on this one. Just one clarification, please:

My choice would be "fall leaves" - so for the duration of the swap, that could (would/should) be my motto?

blueribbontoes 10-23-2009 01:03 PM

Roster moved to post above.

blueribbontoes 10-23-2009 01:09 PM

Gee, MadQuilter, you're fast! lol! "Fall Leaves" would be a great "motto."

sdparent 10-23-2009 01:13 PM

I want to do this one too, sounds like fun. I just sent you my info.

MadQuilter 10-23-2009 01:13 PM

That's coz I'm feeling better. Montezuma has taken his revenge elsewhere (as in Elvis has left the building).

blueribbontoes 10-23-2009 02:08 PM

I'm so glad you're feeling better MadQuilter,

Love your very own "blueberrytones"

Ninnie 10-23-2009 02:16 PM

Hi, I am a little dense today I think Mad's montezuma landed here   So, let me see if I understand this.
Say I choose Teals and Browns, then my square will be made in those colors. Is this going to be a on going swap, with a new partner every month? So that we end up with enough 12.5 squares for a quilt in our choices?
Sorry for the confusion. Like over the coming months, whoever gets you will make you A star in your chosen colors, do I understand this? the stars can be from different patterns, will still be in your chosen colors?

KGoodhand 10-23-2009 02:22 PM

This sounds like fun!
My understanding - we are given someones name and what kind of block they would like you to make. Your name in turn is given to someone to make a block of your choosing. What a great idea!!!
I will think about what I would like to do and check back in with a PM!
I am so happy you 'stole' the idea from another board! The bonus is that sending one block is like sending a letter! Minimal cost!
Be back soon!

Shelanie 10-23-2009 02:31 PM

I'm in, I will PM you.

blueribbontoes 10-23-2009 02:35 PM

Yup- If we have enough interest, this will be an ongoing thing. After a year, you should have enough to make a quilt!

I went back and forth about the size and amount of blocks- but thought one would be a minimal amount of effort, and as KGoodHand pointed out, a 12.5 square mails nicely in a regular envelope.

How this works- let's say that Mary (imaginary lady) and I are partners. Her theme is "scrappy nine patch blocks." I would make her a scrappy nine patch block which is 12.5 by 12.5 inches big. I would then mail it directly to her. Mary would make me one in my specifications and mail it to me. In December, Mary and I would be given a new partner and start over. Clear as mud?

NorBanaquilts 10-23-2009 02:36 PM

This sounds like great fun, I'm in.

I think I am going to change my idea to something that I always wanted to do, but am too chicken to do. I absolutly LOVE birds, and the colors red and teal. So, I'm going to go out on a limb and ask for that. (If you don't want to include birds, just do red/teal/cream. Don't stress!!!! "Birds," for example can be interpreted many ways. Ever heard of the "flying geese" pattern?)

I also thought it may be a good idea to show an example of what you like so your partner has a reference.

Here are my examples for my ideal block: DO NOT STRESS. See above, just do teal and red, and keep birds in the back of your mind.. lol! I also love applique and embroidery, so please just have fun with this swap....

MadeinMaine 10-23-2009 04:11 PM

Love this idea, too! Thanks, blueribbontoes for heading this up. I will PM you with further info.

KGoodhand 10-23-2009 04:29 PM

Do we need to pick right now?!?!
When are you planning on doing the first pairing?!?
I need to think!?!?!? :? :?

blueribbontoes 10-23-2009 04:41 PM

To clarify/answer few questions:

Your partner will be assigned November 1st. You may mail your block for your partner any time in November. (You have a month to create/mail your partner's block.)

However, if you fail to uphold your swap obligation, you will be removed from the list for the next month's swap. *Life happens, please communicate with your partner and myself if you will be late.* Lateness won't cause you to be removed from the list, only failing to deliver a block/lack of communication. We are all friends here, and everyone I've talked to has been wonderful so I doubt we'll have a problem.

November sign ups end on Oct. 30th so I can mail everyone's partner/address. (Lots of clerical work!!) We'll do this again in December, so if you miss the deadline you have another chance.

KGoodhand 10-23-2009 04:46 PM

I have one more silly question - if I asked for Coca Cola themed squares, is that to weird or too hard?!? My sewing room is all Coke themed and I would love to have a quilt to put on when ewing since it is in the basement. Please give your honest opinion!

charismah 10-23-2009 05:23 PM

Ummm..I am not a really picky person....but I guess I will choose a color combo I love like:

Pink and Brown...it can be any shade or hue of these colors..I love brights pastels ect.

I love any prints ....Is this enough info?

Flowers, birds, amy butler fabrics.....basic grey.....stripes..plaids...anything at all. lol

blueribbontoes 10-23-2009 05:43 PM

Pink and brown was my original idea, so I like it!

Coke Cola will be a fun theme to see what everyone will come up with. Will you be ok with red/black/white if we can't find Coke fabric?

I will need your addresses, please, before I can add you to the list. Thanks!

I think it sounds like a great idea! Like I said my whole room is Coke!
Okay sign me up and Coca Cola it is!!!

amma 10-23-2009 07:54 PM

This sounds like fun!! Sign me up please :D :D :D
I pick bright colors, any and all...batiks, watercolors, blenders anything of that nature in a pattern of the makers choice. I envision a stained glass, sampler sort of look at the end using black sashing and borders
PM going out now!!

Esqmommy 10-23-2009 10:21 PM

But you only get one block? I don't get this one...

MadQuilter 10-23-2009 10:59 PM

I think it's a fun challenge.

I guess this is for those of us who want to do baby-steps in the swap arena. Yes, you only get one block a month, but you specify the theme/color and you'll get different interpretations on the theme from different swappers if you stay in for a while.

MadeinMaine 10-24-2009 04:08 AM

Hey, KGoodhand - Love your Coke request!
It will be fun to go on a "scavenger hunt" each month to make the assigned partner's block request :D I love this idea.
I am "wishing" for IRIS flower blocks>> any colors including batiks, any type of block (pieced, embroidered, applique, painted, etc).
Thanks so much, blueribbontoes :D

OrchidQuiltFish(OQF) 10-24-2009 04:21 AM

I would like to sign too.

Thanks

Up North 10-24-2009 04:25 AM

Is there still room for one more? I would like to join in.
dark green rose-mauve and cream stars.

NorBanaquilts 10-24-2009 04:50 AM

For my blocks I would like to request batik stars with a black background. I'll pm you my address.

blueribbontoes 10-24-2009 05:02 AM

Alright, I am getting my database updated. (ooh, technology. However, for partner assigning, Im just throwing names in a hat. Hows that for technology? lol!!)

I need Amma's theme, Ninnie's theme/address.

Please help me stay organized. lol.

Esq, yup, one block a month for as long as you want to join. It is just fun to get mail, and making one block to mail out shouldn't be stressful. MadQuilter explained it very well. :D

OrchidQuiltFish(OQF) 10-24-2009 06:29 AM

I also want stars in bright reds and greens.

buddy'smom 10-24-2009 06:51 AM

I would like to do this one as well, I'd love winter/Christmas theme. MY favorite time of year.

Esqmommy 10-24-2009 08:13 AM

I want to do it, but I'm trying to limit my committments next year because I'm doing the DJ. I also want to continue with the DQS and I have a goal to make a bunch of Kaffe Fassett quilts that I want to use to decorate my house! You ladies have fun and I'll check in and see your magic! It looks like it will be a fantastic idea. I'm partcularly partial to the birds with teal/red (I collect bird fabrics!!) and the Coca Cola idea! How fun those will be for me to watch! 8)

Knot Sew 10-24-2009 02:55 PM

Me Me Me... flowers with or without cats and birds...blue background.

Is that to much? now do I pm and what info do you need

blueribbontoes 10-24-2009 03:05 PM

Your name, address, and I've been starting to ask for emails, as that is easier to do than pm's. Thank you!

NorBanaquilts 10-24-2009 04:09 PM

I'll pm you my e-mail, would it cause great confusion if I changed my block style?

blueribbontoes 10-24-2009 04:16 PM

Nor, no, it won't bother me a bit. Just a few clicks of the "delete" button. :) what sounds good?

NorBanaquilts 10-24-2009 05:03 PM

I was thinking it would be really neat to have a quilter's quilt, made by my fellow quilters. Blocks could be thread spool, button jar, tomato pin cushion, sewing machine, etc. Also, do the blocks have to be 12", most of the ones I've seen for these patterns have only been 6"

blueribbontoes 10-24-2009 06:09 PM

I left my database open on my computer, and my toddler deleted information. I have also been deleting information on pm's as to keep track of whom I already recorded... so I can't go back and double check. drat! I am so sorry to have to ask for information again- I promise it won't happen again. (You can blame my husband, I wasn't home when my little darling decided to attack the computer... lol...)

I HAVE THE FOLLOWING MEMBER'S INFORMATION:

MadeinMaine
MadQuilter
SdParent
UpNorth- NEED ADDRESS AGAIN, SORRY
buddy'smom
Shelanie
charismah- NEED ADDRESS AGAIN, SORRY
kGoodhand
NorBanaquilts- NEED ADDRESS AGAIN, SORRY
OrchidQuiltFish- NEED ADDRESS AGAIN, SORRY
KnotSew
Cindalu

IF YOU ARE NOT LSITED, please resend your information via pm. THANK YOU AND SORRY FOR THE INCONVENIENCE. If you have not already done so, please send your email address as well.

SO VERY SORRY. I have made a back up file now. :) I also have given up on the list on page one, too confusing to have info in three different places.

Thanks for your understanding!! (Yesh, how embarrassing...)

blueribbontoes 10-24-2009 06:14 PM

Nor- I love both of your themes! They are both great! I can't wait to work on either! :) if the patterns are 6 inches, your partners can just add fun borders. It would be too confusing to have one person's block a different size.

missgigglewings 10-24-2009 08:24 PM

I want to have fun too! Please say its not too late. I like Jewel colors with black! Pleeeeeease...let me in.
