I usually use a herringbone embroidery stitch done by hand, But I have also basted under the edges and topstitched them onto a background square.

What is your favorite size to make the dresden's, in diameter? I love kaleidoscopes, and if I can make them pretty small , I might be able to do the hand stitching.

first of all I'm a miniaturist so most of what I do for me is small. I like the 5" size. only 5 or 6 blades. but most people want a 12" quilt block so my regular size DK is 8".

If I baste the edges down and topstitch them onto a background I like to baste the edges of each blade before I sew the blades together. it is so much easier to do them before rather than after. If you match your thread it won't show much if you topstitch. I just happen to like the look of the herringbone stitch. it kind of gives it a frame.

Love the thread. I think i am reading there is swaps going on here but seem to be lost where to find the swap requirements.
