In defense of the P.O., I have NEVER had a problem with the postal service in all my 72 years of using it. I have sent many many quilts off to various charities and people, plus other items, and never had a problem. All items were delivered on the projected date on the receipt. Yes, the post office is having financial issues, but I also think they are getting a bad rap in general because of a few bad areas that need to be addressed. You guys are bashing them, but think of what you will do without them if/when they fail and what the cost will be for another delivery service.

i don't doubt that what you say ts true, but i have had a series of dysfunctional post offices. so even tho' i'm bashing them, i'm doing it from personal experience and not just hearsay from other people. my local po when i lived in tx had a member go postal and shoot 2 people she worked with. and that was a p.o. that had major problems. i applaud the good offices. it's a difficult job and frankly not one i would enjoy doing, and i'm glad there are people who want to do it. i still use the po as much as possible, to help keep it in business.

I post alot of pkgs every week. my post master is terrific but not all postal workers are as careful as Jim is. I had to wait for 2 weeks for one pkg that went walkabout. for some reason it was sent to the next town and then sent to Denver. Denver sent it back to the second post office which sent it to Iowa city(I'm in Iowa). iowa city sent it back to Dallas and they sent it back to Iowa City. after that it finally came to Salem to me.

These things do happen and are very annoying but most of the time everything works great.

Canadian mail is worse than ours. It takes 2-3 days from here to any state but it takes no less than 18 days or more anywhere in Canada. But it only takes 4 days to my friend in France. Go figure!

i have sent things overseas and it is an anytime now situation. can get there quickly, or take weeks. i figure they have to put mail for the uk on an airplane from here as the queen mary doesn't make that many crossings. it's less than 10 hrs by plane i think. so do they just sit on it after that? or does it have to go to california to get there? but, it is certainly better all around than it has ever been , so let's hope it continues to improve! with the internet we get use to immediate results. so far they have not figured out how to transport a quilt on airwaves, or what ever they are these days!
