July - You make one quilt block of your choice
Aug. - You make one quilt block of your choice
Sept - You make one quilt block of your choice

into the drawing
If posting a picture is a problem for you let me know and I will help

Nov 1[SUP]st[/SUP] - I will draw names and addresses and send each quilter
the address they will send their wall hanging to.

Please Post Pics of: Not required but this would be great if you can

Your Fabric you are going to use or thinking of using
Embellishments you are using
Progress pictures would be nice!!
Each month post a pic of the quilt block you made
You can post pictures of the quilt blocks you are thinking of doing also

I would like to see some sharing of ideas and conversation along the way!!
That is the really fun part!!

Requirements:

100% Cotton
Prewashing or not is up to you

Sign up:

Just post on the thread if you are willing to enter a wall hanging.
There will be no end to the sign up.
If anyone wants to catch up and send in a wall hanging by Oct 31st that is fine with me.

Size and Type of Quilt Block:

A wall hanging should be smaller than a lap quilt but larger than a mug rug.
You can use any type of quilt block and any style any colors.
Ebellishments are a fun way to add to your wall hanging if you like

Layout and Quilting Your Wall Hanging:

You can put your top together any way you want to. You can add more blocks
the same size or smaller or anything you like.
Setting design can be as simple as sewing your quilt blocks together or adding
sashing between blocks or you can use your creativity and make up anything
you can dream up.

You can quilt it or tie it or any method you want to use.
If you have anyone else quilt it please remember to give credit where it is due.

I hope you decide to join us and have a lot of fun!!

Please make sure to read the general rules that apply to all swaps here at the Quilting Board: http://www.quiltingboard.com/t-20154-1.htm

This sounds fun...my only concern is dh and my only son is getting married in July, which is awesome...and keeping me busy! I am so tempted to sign up, but I don't want to commit to something I can't finish...lets see, I bet I can do June and July blocks end of July, then go from there...lol...So, lets throw caution to the wind, and sign me up!

Congrats to your son and you on the upcoming wedding!! It's such an exciting time!

Thanks for joining!! You actually have until the end of Oct to get your wall hanging done and a picture turned in. So if you need to rearrange your time to do it that isn't a problem for me.

I'll start a sign up list but remember there is no end of sign up. If you want to join us any time feel free to do so!!

QuilterMomma 06-02-2012 09:48 AM

Hmmm looking.

teacherbailey 06-02-2012 03:05 PM

I've never done anything as small as a wallhanging but count me in too! My weakness is the actual quilting part so I need to start practicing....

nurse bonnie 06-02-2012 06:22 PM

I love wall hangings and making one for a swap sounds like fun to me. This would be a good time to make a Thanksgiving or Christmas one. So, add me to the list!

I am with you on the quilting part! I have been a long time hand quilter...only been machine quilting the last 2 years or so....and when I say years, I use that term loosely...lol...I am great with the 1/8" away from the ditch stitch, and outline stitch...but the fmq is something I just struggle with...my lqs "sisters" tell me I am too hard on myself...all I know is if I am doing it by machine, and I don't like it, I revert back to hand quilting...so, you and I can cheer each other on, eh??!!

Thanks Rhonda, and that's what I figured is I will have time to work on it after the wedding...and yes, dh and I are so very excited! As I already said, ds is our only child, and he is marrying such a dear girl...July will be a busy month for me, ds wedding, and he also will be 27 in July, and my lqs is having our annual Shop Hop in July...so busy times...but the happy of it far outweighs anything else!
Regards,
Kif

This looks interesting. I do have a question .... Does the wall hanging have to be made in 4 blocks?

Sorry to take so long to answer. I've been tied up helping my mom.

For this first swap yes it will need to be 4 quilt blocks. But you can use any method you want and put them together with any thing you want to add. You can use more than 4 or add smaller or larger blocks into the mix. You can use differant size blocks not all 4 have to be the same size or the same type.

This can be but doesn't have to be a 4 block with sashing wall hanging. The sky's the limit on how you do the 4 blocks and how you put the top together.

If this one goes over well we may do an anything goes next time.

marytoddliz 06-08-2012 10:54 AM

I am in! But what is a Mug rug? That term is not one I have heard before! I have a really cool idea, I will do my June block this weekend.

And let me know if I am correct after we finish with out wall hanging we swap them at the end?

I am giving a hint of what I have in my Mind: Black and white with a touch of Red ~

A mug rug is a mini quilt that you use for setting your coffee mug on and there is usually room for snack on it too.
Type mug rug into search up above and you should see all hte threads on here about ones people have made.

Yes at the end of the 4 months I will send out randomly addresses to everyone to send your wall hanging to another player in the swap. Until then noone will know who is getting which wall hanging! Oh the suspense! LOL

So sorry you and your DH are going through this. I have a handicapped DH and he has ups and downs with some serious health issues. So I can relate. I'll add you and your DH to my prayers!

If you sign up and I know the situation I can make arrangements to substitute for you if you can't get it done. So if you want to sign up feel free to and then if you do have a hitch and can't follow through just let me know as soon as you can. No problem!

nancia 06-10-2012 07:47 AM

maryliztod- your mug rug question stirred me to action. i started a thread in pictures, "some fun mug rugs", if you would like to see some differnt types of mug rugs. they were lots of fun to make and definitely out of the box!

LindaC 06-11-2012 05:54 AM

Rhonda
please sign me up for the wall hanging swap if anyone is willing to swap international (Ireland)

Mary it can be any size you want. I think an average would be about 3' x3' but it can be anything between a mugrug -6" x 8" to a lapsize or crib size quilt-4' x 5'

I have had so many question sizes that I tried not to limit this too much. So the numbers are not an exact requirement

Thanks so much for your kind regards!! We are super excited, and I have to say I feel as if I am running around in circles!! I haven't started on my wall hanging yet, I just can't seem to quilt volunteering to do more wedding things..LOL.. But I seem to work best under pressure anyways...
Take care,
Kif

I will keep you and your spouses in my prayers, too...My dh has MS and Addison's disease, my Mom lives with us and she is a lung cancer survivor, and I have Lupus...I try and not be to whiney about it all, but I am only human and have my moments...then I tell myself that I am blessed to have people who love me, and I have wonderful people to love...and it could be worse, and yes, I do a lot of praying...which works for me...
Take care all,
Kif

nancia 06-11-2012 02:35 PM

and prayers are being said for you all, too!

marytoddliz 06-12-2012 11:33 PM

Kif, have you heard of the book "Keep your mouth shut and wear beige" bt Kathleen Gilles Seidel. It is about the mother of the groom and it is a real funny book. My wonderful quilting buddy and total best friend gave it to me.

My son is also getting married this year, maybe October but date not set yet! Don't they know that I have to know how much time I have to do Stuff! LOL, I am going to make them a double wedding ring quilt, and that alone will take me a really long time! I told my DIL to be she might see it by their golden Anniversary if she is lucky!

I also opened my big mouth and said I would make her dress! But I really don't mind as she is such a sweetie and will not turn into a Bridezilla.

stitchengramie 06-13-2012 12:36 AM

Am I suppose to use 4 different blocks in the wall hanging or can they all be the same?

islandwiz1 06-13-2012 05:00 AM

Thank you everyone for the prayers and kind words to keep me going. Now lets get sewing.
